Management Team

Jackson Hughes (President) specializes in numerical modelling and analysis. Before QPQ, he led the software development efforts of the Wholesale Energy Trading floor of PSEG (Public Service Enterprise Group [NYSE:PEG] - Energy Resources & Trade). He designed and developed financial models for electricity pricing and transmission, created real-time data exchange tools to support both electricity systems and an active trading organization, and developed a pricing data warehouse. Among other projects, Jackson created the first distributed processing Value-at-Risk model for the electricity industry, dynamically distributing the processing load of a week-long scenario analysis via Message Queues to the free processor cycles of the trading floor and support staff computers to obtain a result in hours. His additional research and programming experience includes Genetic Algorithms development at NASA's Marshall Spaceflight Center for protein structure and pattern recognition/optimization; image analysis and pattern recognition, both mathematically and biologically modelled; and development of software to detect ocular irregularities based on retinal reflex patterns for a Research Ophthalmologist. Jackson studied Neuroscience at Brown University, with a focus on Neural Networks, and he received a JD and MBA from Emory University, with a focus on Intellectual Property. He is a registered mediator, and has been admitted to practice law, in the state of Georgia.

Jackson primarily participates in systems evaluation and technology research and development. During his time at QPQ, Jackson has managed projects ranging from full systems re-architectures to the creation of original technology proofs-of-concept. With QPQ, Jackson has also served as a visiting researcher at Brown University, as a systems design expert witness, and as an advisor to early-stage technology firms.

Ali Raza Syed (Chief Systems Architect) specializes in the design and construction of advanced integrated systems. Ali's systems experience is extraordinarily far-reaching. Prior to founding QPQ, he founded and served as CTO of BondGlobe, building an innovative online bond trading and aggregation system which allowed real-time price discovery among millions of fixed income offerings world wide. As Chief Software Architect at Shak-T, he was responsible for the design and development of mission critical real-time analytics and trading systems for fixed income instruments. Prior to that, he led the architecture and development of the Application Integration Manager (AIM) at Alltel [NYSE:AT], a Fortune 500 information services and telecommunications company. AIM was an ambitious distributed middleware system which allowed completely flexible real-time communications between hundreds of financial applications running on disparate platforms and networks worldwide - one of the largest pieces of middleware ever created. He has also been responsbile for development of critical software for numerical analytics, risk management and trading in the financial and energy industries, which have since been deployed at leading institutions such as WestLB, Nomura Securities, HSBC, Morgan Stanley, BankBoston, Conoco, and PG&E. Ali studied Electrical Engineering at Brown University, with an emphasis on control systems research.

Ali coordinates all aspects of technology within QPQ - internal systems, technology research and development, and systems evaluation and optimization. During his time at QPQ, Ali has designed and managed the creation of systems ranging from optics to secure transaction-based data processing to e-commerce, and he is personally responsible for many of the most advanced systems optimizations QPQ has performed. Ali regularly takes on a cutting-edge project or two of his own - he is the recent author of a full JavaScript implementation of the SOAP 1.1, WSDL, and WS-Routing specifications.
